Ferahevler Mahallesi

Hidden in plain sight within Istanbul’s Sariyer district lies Ferahevler Mahallesi. This neighborhood, officially recognized as a mahalle (neighborhood) in 1984, pulsates with a unique blend of old and new. Ferahevler Mahallesi sits nestled between several other distinct neighborhoods. To the north, you’ll find Tarabya, separated by Tarabya Bayırı Caddesi. To the south, İstinye marks the boundary. To the east lies Yeniköy. And to the west, Çamlıtepe (Derbent) and Darüşşafaka complete the picture, bordered by Adnan Kahvesi Caddesi. Originally a small, unassuming community, Ferahevler Mahallesi has undergone a remarkable transformation. It has blossomed into a bustling hub, home to numerous shops and banks. This growth solidified with the relocation of the Sariyer Population Directorate and Sariyer District Governorate to the area. Now, Ferahevler Mahallesi stands as a vital center within Sariyer. A subtle divide exists within the neighborhood. North of Adnan Kahveci Caddesi, modern, upscale residential complexes dominate the landscape. South of the avenue, a more traditional gecekondu (shantytown) settlement persists, creating a fascinating juxtaposition of urban development. Adding to the neighborhood’s charm is Atsushi Miyazaki Park, a green oasis within the urban sprawl. Adjacent to the park lies Bağlar Mevkii, a smaller area often referred to as “Little Ferahevler.” A fork in the road in Bağlar Mevkii offers convenient access to neighboring areas. One path leads directly south to İstinye, while the other offers a smooth transition east into Yeniköy. Ferahevler Mahallesi had a population of 15,233 in 2023. This reflects a slight dip from previous years, with numbers fluctuating between approximately 14,686 in 2007 and 15,863 in 2013.
