Did you know that the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium Planegg in Munich is not just any school? This is a school full of history and cultural importance. You are standing right in front of it. The Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium Planegg is, officially, a government secondary school. It is located in Planegg, Bavaria. This is a mathematical-scientific category Gymnasium, but it also has an economic educational branch. In 2022, 992 students attended the FLG, with a staff of about 74. The school is named after the biochemist Feodor Lynen, a Nobel Prize winner. It was a close call, though. There was a debate between choosing Feodor Lynen and the famous Bavarian comedian Karl Valentin, both of whom lived in this town. But the committee decided on Feodor Lynen in 1980 and the building was inaugurated in 1981. In the 1970s, the gymnasia in the neighbouring towns, such as Gräfelfing and Gauting, were overcrowded. This was the reason for the construction of an additional secondary school in the Würmtal, the valley where you can find Planegg. The construction started in 1979 and in 1980 the school was named after the biochemist Feodor Lynen. The building complex experienced significant changes during the 1990s, 2000s, and 2020s. Some of them were extensive extensions like an extension on the north side of the building and the so-called L-shaped building with the Kupferhaus. The Kupferhaus was designed between 2005 and 2008. This building is more than a concert hall. It also includes classrooms and the school cafeteria. The FLG is a reference grammar school of the TUM School of Education. This is one of 50 schools that are a bridge between the academic teacher training and the practice of teaching. Take a moment to admire its minimalism. These are only some details about the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium Planegg. This school is more than just a place to learn mathematics, science, or economics – it is a place of learning and cultural heritage. You can see this in each brick of the building and in the buzz of the students. This school has a story to tell, and you are a part of it.
