“Oak Cliff church buys historic golf club.” Does this sound like a story you’d expect? It is. Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Cliff, under the guidance of Senior Pastor Dr. Tony Evans, purchased the Golf Club of Dallas. The golf club was previously known as Oak Cliff Country Club. It hosted the Byron Nelson golf tournament for eight years.
Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Cliff started small. It began in 1976 with just 10 people meeting in Evans’s home. Now, it has around 10,000 active members and employs over 300 people.
Philip Bleakney is the head golf pro at the Golf Club of Dallas. He told members via email about the purchase. The church plans to keep it as a golf course. Bleakney met with Evans. He felt that Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Cliff was a great fit to own the golf club.
The church wants to keep the golf course. It also wants to make it a focal point of the community. This is how it used to be.
Separately, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship expanded their campus. This expansion included a new multi-purpose building. The building includes a bookstore and deli. It also has a pastry shop and a warming kitchen. There is also a 100-seat theater and an 800-seat auditorium.
Jordan & Skala Engineers provided design services for the church facility. They focused on MEP and fire protection. The design used green concepts. It followed the Dallas Green Building Ordinance/Programs.
Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Cliff aims to serve its community. It is located in Dallas, TX.
