“Refreshing temperatures and excellent water quality” is what they say about Feldmochinger See. Today, we explore this beloved lake in Munich’s northwest.

Feldmochinger See offers a rural vacation feeling right on Munich’s outskirts. It is part of the Dreiseenplatte with Lerchenauer See and Fasaneriesee. Feldmochinger See is the largest of these three lakes. In fact, it is the third-largest lake in Munich.

Feldmochinger See covers 16 hectares and reaches a depth of six meters. Three freshwater springs feed the lake. This ensures a constant supply of fresh water. The water quality is excellent. The city monitors the water quality regularly. During the bathing season it is checked monthly.

Why is Feldmochinger See so popular? The shores are lined with old trees and shrubs. These provide plenty of shade on the spacious lawns. This makes it ideal for relaxing on hot summer days. The water temperature reaches between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius in summer.

In the western part of Feldmochinger See, grilling is allowed in designated areas. You’ll also find several volleyball courts and a fitness trail here. So there are plenty of opportunities for sports. There is also a large children’s playground on the eastern shore. This offers fun for families.

At the southern end is the FKK area. Next to this is a natural biotope. It offers a habitat for dragonflies and coots. An observation platform offers beautiful views. You can enjoy looking over the entire Feldmochinger See.

The Feldmochinger See also has a special feature. At the northern shore there is an accessible bathing area. This includes a wheelchair ramp. It allows easy access into the water.

Getting to Feldmochinger See is easy. There are around 1,000 parking spaces. The lake is also popular for bike tours. You can reach it by subway or suburban train to Feldmoching station. From there, it is a short walk.

Feldmochinger See guarantees refreshment. Three fresh water springs ensure constant water exchange. The water flows out via the Kalterbach. There are also many shady places to relax here. So, whether you want to swim, grill, or just relax, Feldmochinger See offers something for everyone.
