December’s chill gripped Stupferich in 2008. A shocking discovery was made at the Feldkreuz Ettlinger Gewann. The wayside cross stood stark against the winter sky, but something was amiss. The gold-leafed figure of Christ was gone, stolen by unknown hands. The Feldkreuz Ettlinger Gewann, a landmark of faith, was now a symbol of loss. The community rallied. The Gewinnsparverein Baden generously donated funds to replace the stolen figure. Steinbildhauer Christoph Lehr crafted a new corpus, not of gold, but of enduring sandstone. Manfred Gräber meticulously repainted the cross itself, breathing new life into the old. On May 9th, 2009, the Feldkreuz Ettlinger Gewann was rededicated. Pfarrer Horst Lothar Nickles presided over the ceremony, blessing the restored cross and its new sandstone Christ. The Feldkreuz Ettlinger Gewann once again stood complete, a testament to the community’s resilience and devotion.
