What if I told you the future of biology is being shaped right here? This is FB 10 Biologie. It is part of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. FB 10 Biologie is not just a building. It is a hub of research and learning. Here, students explore everything from molecular biology to evolutionary ecology.
The Faculty of Biology at JGU has adapted. It has diversified over the last 25 years. It offers students a wide range of biological fields. These fields ensure a comprehensive education. Students can choose from three Bachelor’s and six Master’s programs. One Master’s program is international. It is in cooperation with the University of Dijon. There are also interdepartmental doctoral programs. These programs receive support from various organizations. These include the German Research Foundation and the Max Planck Society.
Research at FB 10 Biologie focuses on three key areas. These are evolution, biodiversity, and anthropology. Neurobiology and developmental biology are also key. Molecular structure biology, cell biology, and biotechnology complete the trio. These areas work together. They connect with other faculties. These include the University Medical Center and the physics, mathematics, and computer science departments.
FB 10 Biologie has several institutes. There is the Institute for Organismic and Molecular Evolution. There is also the Institute for Developmental Biology and Neurobiology. The Institute for Molecular Physiology is present, too. Since the end of 2020, some groups have moved into BioZentrum II. Most will be there by the summer of 2021. BioCenter III is planned. The remaining groups will be located there around 2025.
The Master’s program in Biology builds on Bachelor’s degrees. These include Biology and Molecular Biology. The program is bilingual. It requires German and English skills. Students can choose modules freely. They can study according to their needs. They can specialize in areas like evolutionary biology. Developmental biology and neurobiology are options, too. Molecular physiology is another choice. Specializations can be added to the degree certificate. This requires successful study and completion of projects in the chosen area.
The Institute of Molecular Biology is located on the JGU campus. It focuses on innovative research areas. These areas include developmental biology and epigenetics. Just two years after its founding, the IMB took a central position. It became important in life sciences at the university.
FB 10 Biologie continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the changing needs of science and students. It remains a vital center for biological research and education. Remember FB 10 Biologie. It is where the next generation of biologists is trained. It is where groundbreaking discoveries are made.
