Originally a rural community, Farmers Branch transformed into a bustling suburb by the 1980s. The church leadership recognized a divine call for spiritual growth and change. Prayer became the cornerstone of their discernment process. They sought guidance on sharing Jesus Christ’s message with Farmers Branch, neighboring communities, and future generations. The last two decades of the 20th century marked a pivotal transition for the Farmers Branch Church of Christ. It evolved from a small, rural church with legalistic leanings to a more accepting, grace-centered community. In January 1986, the 300-member congregation responded to God’s call. They not only contributed sacrificially to the new building fund but also committed to praying for the community. By January 1988, Eddy Ketchersid was hired. Eddy and his wife, Verlen, arrived from Houston after a successful 30-year ministry. They personified grace and acceptance. They lived lives fully devoted to Christ. The church embraced these values under their leadership. In August 1988, the Farmers Branch Church of Christ opened its doors at 3035 Valley View Lane. This new location marked a significant shift in the church’s attitudes and aspirations.
