On a quiet corner in Jakarta, nestled within the bustling Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, rises the Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi. It’s not just a building of concrete and glass. It’s a testament to Indonesia’s evolving journey in embracing science and technology within a rich tapestry of Islamic values. Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi’s story begins, not with bricks and mortar, but with a vision. In the late 1990s, during the conversion of IAIN (State Islamic Institute) to UIN (State Islamic University), a pioneering program emerged. This program, a collaborative effort with Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT), laid the foundation for what would become Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi. Initially focusing on Informatics Engineering and Agribusiness, the program signaled a commitment to integrating scientific disciplines within the university’s framework. The official transformation of IAIN to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2002, marked a pivotal moment. Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi officially became part of the university’s academic structure. This transition, inaugurated by then-Vice President Hamzah Haz, signified a dedication to a more holistic and integrated approach to education. From its humble beginnings, Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi has continually expanded its horizons. By 2016, it housed nine distinct study programs. These programs, ranging from Informatics Engineering and Agribusiness to Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, reflect the faculty’s commitment to diverse scientific fields. Furthermore, the addition of a Master’s program in Agribusiness in 2010 and a Mining Engineering program in 2016 solidified Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi’s dedication to advanced studies. Today, Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi stands as a vibrant hub of learning, research, and community engagement. It nurtures over 3,660 students and boasts a faculty of 11 experts across 10 diverse study programs. It is more than just a faculty. It’s a microcosm of Indonesia’s pursuit of knowledge, a place where scientific inquiry and technological advancement intersect with a deep-rooted respect for cultural heritage.
