“Akreditasi Unggul” a phrase that echoes through the halls of Fakultas Kedokteran UKI. This faculty stands as a pillar of medical education in Indonesia. It has earned its distinguished reputation through decades of dedication and commitment.
Fakultas Kedokteran UKI, or the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Indonesia, has a rich history. It began its journey on December 2 1962. Since then, it has produced 5,816 doctors. These alumni serve communities across Indonesia and even abroad.
UKI itself emerged from a vision. After Indonesia’s independence in 1945, Christian leaders saw a need. They wanted to contribute to the nation’s development. They established the Dewan Gereja di Indonesia now PGI in 1950. This council recognized the importance of education. A committee led by Prof Dr IP Simanjuntak studied the feasibility of founding a Christian university.
The dream materialized on October 15 1953 with the official opening of Universitas Kristen Indonesia. Initially, it had only two faculties. These were the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and the Faculty of Economics. But the vision expanded. The Fakultas Kedokteran UKI was established in 1962. It preceded the Faculty of Engineering which was founded in 1963.
The Faculty of Medicine recently received “Akreditasi Unggul”. This is a testament to its high standards. Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Pendidikan Tinggi Kesehatan Indonesia LAM-PTKes gave this award. The accreditation covers both the Bachelor of Medicine program and the Doctor Profession Program.
Assessment is rigorous. In June 2024, a team of assessors visited Fakultas Kedokteran UKI. They evaluated the faculty’s resources and teaching quality. The assessors also visited Puskesmas Kota Bogor Selatan and RSU UKI. These are important teaching facilities.
