On a quiet corner in Jakarta, a beacon of knowledge and social understanding stands tall: the Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (FISIP UI). This isn’t just another building. It’s a crucible where Indonesia’s future leaders and thinkers are forged. FISIP UI’s story began not within these walls, but in the halls of the Faculty of Law and Community Sciences in 1959. The Department of Publication, now known as the Department of Communication Sciences, was established with a clear purpose: to elevate the standards of Indonesian journalism. FISIP UI quickly realized the growing importance of other social sciences. Fields like sociology, political science, and administration were crucial for understanding and shaping the nation’s future. In 1962, under Dean Prof. Sujono Hadinoto, the faculty expanded its scope, adding these vital disciplines to its curriculum. The faculty’s name has evolved over time, reflecting its expanding role. Initially the Faculty of Community Sciences, it became the Faculty of Social Sciences in 1972. Then, in 1982, it adopted its current name: Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik. This change signified the growing importance of political science in Indonesia’s rapidly changing landscape. FISIP UI has been led by a series of influential deans. Each leader contributed to the faculty’s growth and prestige, shaping its identity as a leading institution for social and political thought. Today, FISIP UI offers a wide range of programs, from undergraduate to doctoral levels, covering everything from communications to international relations. Its alumni have gone on to become key figures in Indonesian society, contributing to the nation’s political, social, and cultural development. FISIP UI’s commitment to academic excellence continues to drive its progress. The faculty embraces innovation, constantly evolving to meet the challenges of a complex and ever-changing world.
