What if the secrets to life-saving drugs were unlocked right here? We are standing before the Fakultas Farmasi. It is part of Universitas Indonesia. This faculty is dedicated to the study of pharmacy.
Fakultas Farmasi UI is one of the newest faculties at the University of Indonesia. It is a vital component of the university’s Health Sciences Group. The Fakultas Farmasi UI started in September 1965. It was initially a department within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The department was located on Jl. Diponegoro in Central Jakarta. It was part of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Natural Sciences. In 1982, it became the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. From 1971 to 1977, the Pharmacy Department was behind the Faculty of Economics UI. This was on Jl. Salemba Raya 4 in Central Jakarta. From 1977 to 1987, it occupied a building behind the UI Rectorate building. This was also on Jl. Salemba Raya 4 in Central Jakarta.
In 1987, the Pharmacy Department moved to the UI Campus in Depok. It shared Building D of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences with the Mathematics Department. Since 2000, the administrative activities of the Pharmacy Department were centered in Building C. However, they still used Building D.
At the time of the move to Depok in 1987, the Pharmacy Department managed the Bachelor and Pharmacist Programs. There were about 200 students and 30 lecturers. In 2003, the Pharmacy Department FMIPA UI became the Department of Pharmacy FMIPA UI. This change supported the establishment of an integrated Health Sciences Group within UI.
On November 29, 2011, the Department of Pharmacy FMIPA UI became the Faculty of Pharmacy UI. Currently, the Faculty of Pharmacy UI has two locations on the UI Depok Campus. The Undergraduate Program is in the Health Sciences Group Building. The Postgraduate Program is in the old building in FMIPA UI.
The Faculty of Pharmacy UI offers five study programs. These include the Bachelor of Pharmacy, Pharmacist Profession, and Master of Pharmaceutical Science. There is also a Master of Herbal Science. Finally, they offer a Doctorate of Pharmaceutical Science.
The undergraduate program gives an initial view of the basics of pharmaceutical science and technology. This can be developed further at the next level. Graduates of this program receive the title S.Farm. The Pharmacist Profession Program offers two specializations. These are Industrial Pharmacy and Hospital and Community Health Center Pharmacy. Graduates receive the title Apt.
The Master of Pharmaceutical Science program has six specializations. These include Pharmaceutical Technology and Clinical Pharmacy. Further specializations are Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology-Biological Pharmacy, and Pharmacology-Toxicology. The Master of Herbal Science program has two specializations. These are Medical Herbs and Aesthetic Herbs.
There are several routes to enter the Faculty of Pharmacy UI. The FF UI has two classes. These are parallel and regular classes. PPKB is a selection based on SMA report scores. SIMAK UI Paralel is an independent written test by the University of Indonesia. SNMPTN is a selection based on SMA report scores. SBMPTN is a selection through written tests. SIMAK UI Reguler is an independent written test.
In 2021, the acceptance rate for the Faculty of Pharmacy’s undergraduate program was very competitive. PPKB accepted 30 students with an 8.1% acceptance rate. SIMAK UI accepted 30 students with a 1.4% acceptance rate. SNMPTN accepted 18 students with a 3.5% acceptance rate. SBMPTN accepted 27 students with a 2.3% acceptance rate. SIMAK UI accepted 45 students with a 1.2% acceptance rate.
Several organizations support student life here. BEM FF UI is an executive body founded in 2012. It develops student potential and channels social concerns. BPM FF UI is a student organization. It acts as a legislative body. SYIFA FF UI is a religious organization for Muslim pharmacy students.
Here at Fakultas Farmasi UI, the future of medicine is being shaped. Generations of pharmacists are trained. They will improve healthcare.
