Lost in the swamps? That’s exactly what happened to Reverend Nga Tieng Chieng. Today, we stand before a modern church building. But the journey of Faith Methodist Church;Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church began humbly. The first service, on Easter Sunday 1965, was held in an open field. About 40 people stood together, singing hymns from memory, with no PA system or instruments. Faith Methodist Church;Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church was Queenstown’s first Methodist church. Actually, it’s two churches sharing one building. Faith Methodist Church serves the English-speaking community. Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church serves the Chinese-speaking community. Both emerged from the Queenstown Methodist Church Pioneer Work. The church building we see today was dedicated in 1967 by Bishops Robert Lundy and Hobart Baumann Amstutz. It’s named in memory of Faith Goh. Her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Goh Kok Kee, were generous donors to the building fund. The church expanded over the years. Major renovations took place in 1976 and 1986. In 2002, the old sanctuary was demolished. A new building arose. It now includes a 1,000-seat sanctuary, an 800-seat worship hall, a kindergarten, a library, and even a columbarium.
