Can data have a soul? That’s a question pondered within the walls of the Faculty of Information Sciences, Graduate School of Information Sciences at Hiroshima City University. Right here, at this eight-story building, future computer engineers, information scientists, and intelligent systems specialists are molded. The Graduate School of Information Sciences offers Master’s and Doctoral programs. The Faculty of Information Sciences offers Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering and Information Sciences across four departments: Computer and Network Engineering, Intelligent Systems, Systems Engineering, and Biomedical Information Sciences. The air hums with the energy of nearly a thousand students, five of whom are international students, pursuing their passion for the digital world. The Faculty boasts 96 faculty members, creating a student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 10 to 1. This allows for more personalized learning experiences. Interestingly, as of May 1, 2024, four international faculty members contribute their expertise. The Graduate School is structured around four departments mirroring the Faculty’s organization: Computer and Network Engineering, Intelligent Systems, Systems Engineering, and Biomedical Information Sciences. Each department is further divided into three specific fields of study. The doctoral program, however, focuses on a single concentration area within information sciences, encompassing all four departments. For those undergraduates looking ahead, the completion rate in 2024 reached an impressive 91.3%. Many graduates continue their education or find employment, some even securing positions in Japan.
