Inaugurated on October 15 2015 the Edificio Mario Molina is named after Dr. Mario Molina. He was the Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry in 1995. He is also an alumnus of the Facultad de Química. The building serves as a space for collaboration. It connects the university with the social, productive and private sectors.
Dr. Molina himself expressed excitement. He felt honored that his alma mater recognized him. He emphasized the importance of research. He also noted the development of patents for national progress. He envisioned the building as a center for projects. These projects could lead to laws and norms. These would benefit society.
The Facultad de Química – Vinculación Edificio Mario Molina houses several key units. These include the Secretaría de Extensión Académica. It offers courses and diplomas for human resource training. The Coordinación de la Maestría en Administración Industrial is also located here. The Unidades de Servicios de Apoyo a la Investigación y a la Industria or USAII is another important unit. This also includes the Unidad de Vinculación de la Química or UVQ. This is the technology transfer office.
The building is the first dedicated entirely to linkage. It features specialized equipment. This equipment provides services to people and entities. The construction of the Edificio Mario Molina was part of a major financial campaign. This was organized by the Facultad de Química. It was in celebration of the centennial of this entity.
The building occupies 1900 square meters. It has a total construction area of nearly 4000 square meters. Its construction uses pre-mixed structural concrete and steel. Cempanel a light resistant and non-flammable material was used. Copper pipes and LED lights were also incorporated.
