Savio’s vision. That’s what echoes within these walls of the Facultad de Ingeniería del Ejército Grl. Div. Manuel N. Savio. Right here, on Avenida Cabildo, stands a testament to a man’s dream of bolstering Argentina’s national industry. The institution’s story began in 1930, not as a faculty, but as the Escuela Superior Técnica. Lieutenant Colonel Manuel Nicolás Savio envisioned a place where skilled professionals could be forged, ready to contribute to the nation’s industrial growth. The Facultad de Ingeniería del Ejército, as it’s known today, still carries that torch. Originally, the school mirrored European traditions of university education, taking inspiration from the École Polytechnique in France. In 1993, a significant shift occurred. The Escuela Superior Técnica, now an academic unit of the Army’s Higher Education Institute, opened its doors to civilian students. This expanded Savio’s initial vision, broadening its impact to encompass all of Argentine society. The institution then began to operate under the Federal Education Law No. 24195 and the Higher Education Law No. 24521. The final transformation came in 2018. The institute was officially designated as the Facultad de Ingeniería del Ejército, under the umbrella of the National Defense University (UNDEF). The name, a tribute to its founder, solidified Savio’s legacy within the very structure he envisioned. From its early days in the former Military College to its modern presence on Avenida Cabildo, this institution has pursued academic excellence.
