“Fifty years represent a constant contribution”. These words encapsulate the spirit of the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán. Today we stand before a testament to five decades of academic excellence. This is a place dedicated to research and cultural enrichment.
The Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán or FES Cuautitlán, is a multidisciplinary faculty of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México UNAM. It stands as the first multidisciplinary unit built outside Ciudad Universitaria. Its location is in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Estado de México.
Imagine the university landscape in the early 1970s. Student enrollment surged. The existing infrastructure strained under the weight of growing numbers. Rector Pablo González Casanova proposed building new campuses beyond Ciudad Universitaria. Thus, the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Profesionales ENEP Cuautitlán emerged. It is now known as Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán.
Classes began in 1974 across three campuses. Over 3450 eager students enrolled in administration, law, engineering, and other fields. The initial infrastructure comprised classrooms, laboratories, workshops, libraries, and an auditorium.
The institution expanded its offerings. Engineering programs in agriculture and food were introduced. These additions solidified its academic progress. The ENEP Cuautitlán soon ventured into postgraduate studies. In 1980, the university approved a doctoral program in microbiology. This marked the transformation of ENEP Cuautitlán into the Facultad de Estudios Superiores. The acquisition of Rancho Almaraz led to the consolidation of campuses. This created the Campo Cuatro we know today.
FES Cuautitlán is unique within UNAM. It participates in all four academic councils. These councils span biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. This broad involvement allows FES Cuautitlán to influence university planning and evaluation across diverse fields.
Research thrives at FES Cuautitlán. It supports humanities, sciences, engineering, agricultural sciences, and administrative sciences. The Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán has strengthened its position. It is now a leading higher education option in the northern metropolitan area of Mexico City.
The Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán is committed to science, technology, and culture. It strengthens itself through overcoming countless challenges. As we conclude our visit, consider the legacy of FES Cuautitlán. This institution continues to shape future generations. It contributes to Mexico’s intellectual and scientific advancement.
