In 1783, a quiet estate known as Lindenhof existed in Coswig. Now, the Fachkrankenhaus Coswig stands on this very ground. It’s a place with a fascinating past. Originally, Lindenhof was just an estate. In 1845, neurologist Friedrich Gustav Bräunlich saw its potential. He transformed it into a psychiatric clinic. Bräunlich already had a similar clinic nearby. But he closed it to focus on his new project at Lindenhof. Then, in 1891, Reginald H. Pierson bought Lindenhof. Pierson added his own touches. He created a beautiful park. He also built charming patient villas designed in the Swiss chalet style. He added a utility building and a social center. These buildings still exist today as part of the Fachkrankenhaus Coswig. The Fachkrankenhaus Coswig specializes in treating bronchial and pulmonary diseases. The historic buildings from the late 19th century are all protected as historical landmarks. The park itself is a protected landscape garden. In 2018, the Fachkrankenhaus Coswig treated around 8,000 patients. The hospital offers 171 beds. It continues its tradition of care started so many years ago by Bräunlich. Fachkrankenhaus Coswig remains an important institution in Coswig, a testament to its rich and evolving history.
