This happened on the site of an older building. Baurat A. Schuchardt designed the new church. However, the chancel tower remained. It dates back to the 15th century. A hood was added to the tower in 1775.
The Evangelische Kirche Heckershausen has always been central to village life. In 1505, Heckershausen had its own parish. Then in 1872, the Protestant parish included Fürstenwald.
The lords of Löwenstein were patrons of the church in 1527. By 1585, the Landgraves of Hesse had full patronage.
