He joined Carranza’s forces after exile in Europe. In 1913 Carranza made him deputy secretary of war. He then served Francisco Villa as an artillery expert. Ángeles participated in key military operations. The Northern Division fought against federal forces.

Francisco Villa and Felipe Ángeles were defeated. In 1919 he was arrested. He faced trial for rebellion. He was executed on November 26.
