On a spring day in 1960, Estadi Balear buzzed with anticipation. The brand-new stadium prepared to welcome Birmingham City for its inaugural match. Estadi Balear, located in Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain, officially opened on May 8th, 1960. The home team, CD Atlético Baleares, triumphed with a 2-0 victory. This marked the beginning of Estadi Balear’s journey as a sporting landmark. The stadium boasted a covered stand and a 102×67 meter pitch. It quickly became the heart of CD Atlético Baleares. Estadi Balear witnessed countless matches and celebrated numerous victories. However, time took its toll. In 2013, Estadi Balear faced a crisis. The Palma city council declared it unsafe due to the risk of collapse, forcing its closure. CD Atlético Baleares relocated their home games to the nearby Camp de Son Malferit. The future of Estadi Balear hung in the balance for over four years. Finally, in December 2017, a glimmer of hope appeared. Renovation work began, aiming to restore the stadium to its former glory. The capacity was reduced to around 4,200 for safety reasons. After extensive renovations, Estadi Balear reopened its doors in 2019. CD Atlético Baleares returned to their rightful home, ready to write a new chapter in the stadium’s history. The revitalized Estadi Balear stands as a testament to the club’s resilience and the community’s unwavering support.
