Once a simple “Tin Mosque” graced this very spot. Now, the Esenler Cami rises in its place. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of faith. The Esenler Cami isn’t just a building. It’s a living story etched in stone. Esenler Municipality, Esenler Mufti, and the Bahçelievler Hak Foundation joined forces. They envisioned a mosque that would last, not just for decades, but for centuries. This collaboration birthed the second stone mosque in the Republic’s history. The mosque is located in Birlik Mahallesi. It’s being meticulously constructed on a 1000 square meter plot. The design echoes the historical Kılıç Ali Paşa Mosque in Tophane, built by the legendary architect Mimar Sinan. Construction began last year, with workers toiling tirelessly under a protective covering to minimize disruption. Now, as the Esenler Cami takes shape, that covering has been removed. The mosque’s framework is revealed for all to admire. The Esenler Cami is more than just a place of worship. It’s a symbol of the community’s devotion. The anticipated completion date, including landscaping, is within the next three years. The former “Tin Mosque,” officially known as Halil İbrahim Mosque, was deemed structurally unsound. It posed a risk in the event of an earthquake. The mayor of Esenler, Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, announced its replacement. He revealed the ambitious plan for the stone mosque. A generous benefactor, choosing to remain anonymous, championed the project. This individual insisted on stone construction. He stated that a concrete mosque might last 100 years, but a stone mosque would endure for eternity. The Esenler Cami’s construction is a feat of engineering and artistry. The main dome rests upon 1.60 cm thick keystones. The walls are built with stones ranging from 1.20 cm to 1.40 cm in width. These stones are carefully shaped by skilled artisans. The mosque adheres to traditional Ottoman architectural principles. It features three entrances. Two minarets flank the main dome, encircled by smaller domes. Arches adorn the front and side facades. The Esenler Cami is a beacon of faith, a testament to community, and a masterpiece of architecture. It will serve generations to come. It stands as a proud landmark in Esenler.
