Escuela Técnica Superior Las Piedras first opened its doors in April 1950. It began as a vision to provide technical education in Las Piedras. Imagine the scene in 1949. The cornerstone was placed at the railway. It was located at Espínola Street and Jose Batlle y Ordoñez.
Architect Ovidio Dupetit rallied support in 1952. He wanted to construct a workshop for the school. Professors and students joined in. They sought help from Intendente Don Tomás Berreta and Consejero Brause. Their goal was to secure land for the school.
The Escuela Técnica Superior Las Piedras expanded its capabilities. In 1955 and 1956, they purchased machinery for carpentry and mechanics. Evening courses began in 1965. A property was rented in Torres García to accommodate the growing demand.
October 1966 marked a turning point. Construction of the school’s own building finally began. By July 3 1970, the first part of the new building was delivered. It was on B. Brum Street. The Ministry of Public Works oversaw the project. The school officially inaugurated its own building in 1972.
The institution continued to evolve. From 1980 to 1990, new workshops were added. The school split its administration. One section managed basic courses. The other handled higher-level studies.
A significant remodeling took place in 2000. The building expanded into what was once the back patio. This expansion added gastronomy workshops on the ground floor. Beauty and hairdressing facilities were added. There was also a computer lab and drawing rooms upstairs. Today the school occupies more than half of the block.

In March 2024, a new UTU opened in Vista Linda Las Piedras. This new school can serve over 800 students. It has nine classrooms and five labs. There is also a carpentry workshop.
