A grand legacy of learning unfolds before us at the Escuela Técnica Raggio. Established in 1924, the Escuela Técnica Raggio stands as a testament to the vision of its founders, Emilio and Andrés Raggio. They envisioned a space where technical skills and artistic expression could flourish together. The school’s inauguration was a grand affair, graced by President Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear himself. The original structure, with separate pavilions for boys and girls, honored their parents, Lorenzo and María Celle de Raggio. The neoclassical architecture, with its romantic arches, speaks to the era’s aesthetic. Sadly, the María Celle pavilion was demolished in 1969 to accommodate the expansion of Avenida General Paz. The Escuela Técnica Raggio holds a unique place in Buenos Aires’ educational landscape. It stands as the sole technical school in the city that remained independent of the National Council of Technical Education (CONET). This independence allowed the Raggio to chart its own course, adapting to the evolving needs of the community it serves. Within the walls of the Escuela Técnica Raggio lies a hidden gem: the Lorenzo Raggio Techno-Educational Museum. This museum is a treasure trove of the school’s history, showcasing a collection of photographs, artwork, and technical artifacts. Among its most prized possessions are the original architectural plans for the Teatro Colón, used by former Raggio teachers who worked on the theater’s construction. These plans, sealed by architect Vittorio Meano’s studio in 1892, offer a unique glimpse into the creation of one of Argentina’s most iconic landmarks. Over the years, the Escuela Técnica Raggio has evolved, adapting its curriculum to meet the demands of a changing world. From its early days offering courses in chiseling, dressmaking, and weaving, the school has expanded to encompass modern fields such as graphic design, advertising, and information technology. The school remains true to its founding principles, providing a comprehensive education that combines technical expertise with artistic creativity.
