Established in 1983, Escuela Técnica Malvín Norte stands as a testament to Uruguay’s commitment to its youth. Before that, this very spot held a different purpose. It was once the “Dr. Julián Álvarez Cortés” Home for the Protection of Minors.

Let’s step back in time. Imagine the year 1934. A new law created the “Consejo del Niño,” later known as INAME and then INAU. This council decided to separate children from adult prisons. The home here became one of the first protection centers for minors in the country.

Do you know why it was named Álvarez Cortés? Julián Álvarez Cortés was a lawyer. He actively helped create the Children’s Code also in 1934. His dedication to children’s rights is forever linked to this place.

Now, fast forward to the 1980s. The Euskalerría complex was under construction. Several towers were rising. In 1983, this building transformed. Escuela Técnica Malvín Norte opened its doors. It became a center for technical education.

Today, Escuela Técnica Malvín Norte offers diverse programs. Students can pursue basic technological education. They can also gain basic professional training. The school provides upper secondary education too. This includes specialized professional and technological paths.

Located on Palmas de Mallorca street, the school is between Mataojo and José María Pirán. You can almost hear the echoes of laughter. Children once found refuge here. Now, young adults learn and grow.

The school’s story is one of evolution. From a home protecting children to a school empowering them. Escuela Técnica Malvín Norte embodies progress. It symbolizes Uruguay’s dedication to education and its youth. It shapes future generations.
