“What if a school became the heart of a community?” That’s the story of Escuela Técnica La Teja. This school wasn’t just built. It was willed into existence by the neighbors.

Let’s step back to 2012. The people of La Teja wanted a school. They formed a project called Uniendo Barrios. This united group pushed for a local educational center. In its first year, Escuela Técnica La Teja was an annex of Paso de La Arena. But by 2013, it gained its own identity. It became Escuela Técnica La Teja.

The community’s involvement didn’t stop there. For a year, neighbors provided snacks for the students. They became important figures in the students’ education. They showed the students support.

Escuela Técnica La Teja grew from community roots. This unique origin shaped its character. It works closely with local organizations. These include INAU, ETAF, and Aulas Comunitarias. It also works with Nodo Adolescente, Nodo Familia, and Jóvenes en Red. The school partners with municipal clinics and SOCATS. Arbolito and Tejano SOCATS are also partners.

Imagine the school’s first classrooms. The space was open. It was divided by cabinets and movable partitions. Theoretical classes took place here. Staff and teachers shared the space. They completed tasks and even had lunch there.

This setup wasn’t ideal. The many groups sharing the space created chaos. It was hard for students to concentrate. The building also had problems. There were leaks. Heavy rains disrupted the school day.

Despite these challenges, Escuela Técnica La Teja developed a special culture. It offered support to its students. Students stayed after class. They socialized at the school. Being a small school, it fostered close relationships. Students and teachers connected on a personal level. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. Students from different groups and shifts got along well. Many students knew each other from the neighborhood. They had connections from local projects.

Escuela Técnica La Teja continues to evolve. The educational programs adapt to community needs. They ensure students can continue their education. The school considers its building size. It also aligns with the DGETP’s educational guidelines.

In 2023, Escuela Técnica La Teja offered various programs. These included FPB Alimentación and FPB Programación y V. J. FPB Música was also offered in the first shift. In the third shift, FPB Audiovisual and FPB Gastronomía were available. There were also “Rumbo” programs.

Escuela Técnica La Teja stands as a testament. It shows what a community can achieve. It’s more than just a school. It is a symbol of neighborhood pride. It is located at Hilario Ascasubí N° 4311. It’s at the corner of Av. Carlos María Ramírez. Feel the warmth of a school built by its community. Feel the spirit of La Teja.
