Did you know that the ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO began as a humble school for military engineers? Today, it stands as a leading university in Ecuador. It is also known as the Armed Forces University ESPE.

The ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO’s story starts in 1922. President José Luis Tamayo founded the Escuela de Oficiales Ingenieros. This school trained army officers in military engineering. In 1936, it evolved into the Escuela de Artillería e Ingenieros. This change came with help from the Second Italian Military Mission. The focus shifted to technical education combining artillery and engineering.

After World War II, it became the Escuela Técnica de Ingenieros. A significant change occurred in 1972. Civilian students gained admission. This opened the doors of the ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO to a wider range of aspiring engineers. In 1977, the Ecuadorian Congress gave it its current name. It became the ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO.

In 2013, a new chapter began. The Superior Education Committee approved merging three military institutions. These were the ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO, Universidad Naval Rafael Morán Valverde, and Instituto Tecnológico Superior Aeronáutico. The merged institution retained the name Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE.

The ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO now has several campuses. The main campus is in Sangolquí. Other campuses include IASA, ESPE Latacunga, and ESPE Santo Domingo. Each campus contributes to the university’s diverse academic environment.

The ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO is divided into departments. These include Computer Sciences, Electricity, Electronics and Telecommunications, and Languages. Life Sciences, Security and Defense, and Exact Sciences are also represented. Earth and Construction Sciences plus Economic, Administrative and Commerce Sciences add to the mix. Rounding it out are Mechanics and Energy Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, and a Distance Education Unit.

Its motto is Innovation for Excellence. This reflects its commitment to progress and high educational standards. The ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO maintains a strong presence in Ecuador’s higher education landscape. It continues to evolve meeting the demands of a changing world. Its history reflects a dedication to technical expertise and academic advancement. The ESCUELA POLITECNICA DEL EJERCITO stands as a testament to Ecuador’s commitment to education and military engineering.
