Once, Escuela 90 Pedro Figari echoed with the joyous sounds of 600 students. Today, let’s delve into its story. This primary school in Montevideo carries a rich history within its walls. Escuela 90 Pedro Figari first opened its doors in 1927. Back then, it was simply known as Escuela Pedro Figari.

Many of its first students were children of Spanish and Italian immigrants. Imagine the mix of cultures and languages filling these halls. Initially, Escuela 90 Pedro Figari shared its building with other institutions. These included Escuela México, Jardín de Infantes Nº 301, and even a music school.

The school originally held classes for second through sixth grade students. By 1928, it expanded to include first grade. Early classes took place in what is now the main hall and the laboratory. In the past, the kitchen was located in the back patio. Here, students in need received a cup of milk. The front patio once featured intercoms, bleachers and a ceibo tree.

For many years, Escuela 90 Pedro Figari operated throughout the entire day. Later, its hours were shortened. From 2014 onward, the school adopted an extended-day schedule. Today, classes run from 10 AM to 5 PM. The architect Julia Guarino designed Escuela 90 Pedro Figari. You can see its facade from Avenida General Flores, looking towards Bulevar General José Artigas. Escuela 90 Pedro Figari stands as a testament to community and education.
