Escuela 205 Obra Morquio

In 1943, a dedicated group of professionals laid the foundation for what would become the Escuela 205 Obra Morquio. Doctors, psychologists, and educators united by a shared vision. They saw a need for specialized education for children with intellectual disabilities. This marked the humble beginnings of Escuela 205 Obra Morquio as a private institution. The school’s early years were devoted to establishing its structure. They developed bylaws and organized training courses for teachers. A pivotal moment in the history of Escuela 205 Obra Morquio arrived in 1948. On March 10th, the boarding services began under the guidance of Zoraida Díaz de Avella. This same year also saw the commencement of the school’s pedagogical work, marking the true start of its educational journey. Fast forward to 1958, and Escuela 205 Obra Morquio achieved official recognition. It came under the purview of the Primary and Normal Education Council. Oversight was provided by the National Inspectorate of Special Education, Section B. This marked a significant step towards its integration into the national education system. The school continued to expand its offerings. In 1979, Escuela 205 Obra Morquio inaugurated a new workshop sector and established the Occupational Habilitation Service (S.H.O.). This expansion reflected the school’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for its students. Escuela 205 Obra Morquio continued its mission of providing a holistic education, combining academic learning with boarding services. The school’s commitment to improving the quality of education led to the introduction of two new projects in 1999. One of these was the Itinerant Support Project. The aim was to extend the reach of Escuela 205 Obra Morquio beyond its walls, offering specialized technical assistance to other mainstream schools in the surrounding area. The project’s goal was to help students facing learning difficulties. This allowed them to stay in their original schools while receiving the support they needed to succeed. Today, Escuela 205 Obra Morquio continues its legacy of providing comprehensive care and education. Students benefit from a range of academic activities. The school operates a morning session from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and offers boarding services for those who require it. Students receive personalized attention across eight educational levels. From preparatory classes to primary levels I through VI, as well as special support and itinerant programs, the school caters to diverse learning needs. In addition to its academic curriculum, Escuela 205 Obra Morquio recognizes the importance of physical development and extracurricular activities. Students have access to physical education, aquatic activities, and psychomotor programs. As part of their educational journey, students over twelve years old also receive vocational training at School No. 380, equipping them with valuable life skills for their future.
