Wondering how 1400 children move in a Flashmob? Escuela 191 “Países del Mercosur” in Montevideo has a story to tell. This school is more than just a place of learning. It is a vibrant community hub. It brings together children from different backgrounds.
Escuela 191 organized the activity “Flashmob: el Marconi en movimiento”. The event involved 1400 children. They came from Marconi, Casavalle, Hipódromo and Piedras Blancas. Public and private institutions participated in the event. It was held at the Estadio “Cr. José Pedro Damiani” in Las Acacias.
The goal was to unite children from various neighborhoods and schools. Teachers of art, dance, and physical education also joined. Organizers wanted to reclaim stigmatized places. They aimed to show the good news coming from these areas.
Ana Ponce de León is the coordinating inspector of the Physical Education Program of CEIP. She explained the idea. The idea was to visualize public spaces. They are unconventional spaces for art. Children could develop their movement culture outside of school.
Escuela 191 also has other stories. In November 2014, the school received a special visit. As part of a tour funded by the Fondo Concursable para la Cultura, Juan Ignacio Fernández and Manuel Carballa visited. Actors Federico Torrado Dotta and Carlos Schulkin joined them. They shared a book, chatted, and performed for the children.
Getting here is easy. Many ônibus lines stop near Escuela 191. Lines 199, 306, 328 and 505 are just a few. The nearest stop is Jose A Posolo – Av Gral Flores. It is only a three-minute walk away. The 505 is the first ônibus to arrive around 3:00 AM. The last ônibus, 11A, stops nearby at 1:38 AM.
