The Escola Superior de Comunicação Social or ESCS is part of the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. It focuses on preparing students for careers in communication. Initially, it was named Journalism School. Its designation evolved into ESCS in 1989. The school began its activity in 1987. A founding Committee was appointed. ESCS was the first state school in Portugal to offer degrees in these scientific areas.

The European Commission funds a project called “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education”. ESCS joins three foreign Higher Education institutions. ESCS raised the Green Eco-Schools Flag. This marked its 35th anniversary. This refers to the academic year 2023/24. It also awarded the Impulso Jovens STEAM incentive grants.
