Descend into the depths. Explore the Escletxa. This isn’t just any cave. It’s a hidden marvel near the Maristella hermitage. A fracture in the earth. Oriented NE-SW. A typical direction for the region’s fissures.

The entrance is small. Almost hidden beneath a two-meter-high rock. A short scramble down leads to the Upper Level. A jumble of rocks earth and organic matter fills the space. To the southwest. It stretches for dozens of meters. Possible extensions are hinted at. To the northeast. A narrow passage begins. A challenging squeeze. It tests your body’s flexibility.

At -11 meters. The fracture transforms into a cave. Formations start to appear. Primarily “banderas”. These are thin blade-like formations. They dominate the Sala de ses Banderes. A spacious hall measuring 10 x 11.5 x 3 meters. The name highlights its distinctive features. Other speleothems are present too.

Graffiti mars the walls. Proof of earlier visitors. One seems to read “OREJA” part of a name. The last character is unclear. Another shows initials. Small clues to past explorers.

From the lower part of the Sala des Grafiti. You climb to Sa Rampa. This subvertical chamber is 12 x 28 x 2.5 meters. It slopes steeply. Oriented east-west.

The Sala de colapso or Collapse Chamber follows. A chaotic jumble of blocks. Many encrusted with calcite. Speleothems are abundant. Especially in the higher parts of the chamber.

Finally. The Sala de sa Troneta. A small 7 x 9 x 3 meter chamber. It lies beneath Sa Rampa’s western side. Reaching it demands careful navigation. A narrow passage guards the way. A sinkhole in the floor gives it its name. The Escletxa. A journey through the earth’s hidden heart. A testament to nature’s artistry.
