Wouldn’t it be amazing if our energy choices powered a better world? Enercoop in Marseille embodies that vision. It stands as a beacon of sustainable energy. Enercoop is not just an electricity provider. It is a cooperative. It puts the power back in the hands of the people.

Enercoop was founded in 2005. Its mission is clear to champion renewable energy. It aims to make citizens responsible for their energy consumption. Enercoop ensures that local members control the energy process. This includes everything from production to consumption.

Imagine a world where your energy bill supports environmental protection. Enercoop is the only electric utility in France to be a cooperative. Its founding members include Greenpeace. Other members include La Nef a French cooperative bank. Friends of the Earth association are also founding members.

Let’s step back to 2005. The French electricity market wasn’t yet liberalized. Initially Enercoop served only companies. But in 2007 the market opened. Enercoop began to grow. It totaled more than 200 customers.

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011 was pivotal. Enercoop’s customer base tripled. It jumped from 3000 in 2009 to 10000 in late 2011. By 2014 Enercoop served 20000 customers. By 2021 Enercoop reached 100000 customers. This shows a rising demand for green energy.

Enercoop’s structure is unique. It aims to create many regional cooperatives around France. In 2014 it had six regional cooperatives. These cooperatives empower local members. They take charge of the energy process.

Enercoop’s articles of association are firm. At least 57% of the profits must be reinvested. This investment goes into electricity production. The remaining profits can be reinvested. They can also reward investors. This ensures a commitment to growth and sustainability.

Think about Marseille’s sunny climate. It is the sunniest city in France. This makes it a perfect location for renewable energy. Enercoop is helping Marseille lead the way. It promotes responsible energy consumption.

Enercoop isn’t just about providing electricity. It’s about creating a community. It’s about fostering environmental responsibility. It’s about empowering citizens to make a difference. The next time you switch on a light think about where that power comes from. With Enercoop in Marseille that power comes from a vision. It’s a vision of a sustainable future. It is a cooperative spirit. It is a commitment to our planet.
