Stepping inside enChristo, one can almost feel the energy of its relatively short but vibrant history. This evangelical free church, nestled in Mainz-Gonsenheim, pulsates with a modern spirit. enChristo’s story began in a living room in 1995. A daughter church of the Ichthys Gemeinde in Frankfurt, its early members held small gatherings, gradually expanding to include larger events. Eventually, they held their first official service in the crypt of a Catholic church in Mainz’s city center. The name “enChristo,” derived from Greek, translates to “in Christ.” This name embodies the core mission and ultimate goal of the church and its community. For twelve years, the congregation moved from place to place, seeking a permanent home. In 2008, they finally found it, acquiring their own building in Mainz-Gonsenheim. enChristo has since become a significant part of the religious landscape. It’s affiliated with several organizations. These affiliations include Foursquare Deutschland, the Association of Evangelical Free Churches (VEF), the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK), and the Evangelical Alliance in Mainz. enChristo offers a wide array of services and activities. From men’s and women’s groups to Bible studies and youth programs, there’s a place for everyone. They also offer childcare during services, allowing parents to fully participate. The church’s motto is “Stay curious – Believe courageously – Grow together.” This motto highlights the open and evolving nature of enChristo’s community.
