Did the name Emmausgemeinde ring a bell? It echoes with a recent union. Here, at Im Münchfeld 2, stands the Emmauskirche, now part of the Evangelische Auferstehungsgemeinde Mainz. In 2024, the Emmausgemeinde merged with the Auferstehungsgemeinde. They became one, creating a vibrant community with two distinct locations. This very Emmauskirche is one of those locations, a place where around 1,000 Protestants once called their spiritual home, now part of a larger family of faith. This union, much like a marriage, blended two histories, two congregations, under a shared love for Jesus Christ. This wasn’t an overnight decision. For twelve years, the congregations worked together, starting with confirmation classes. The youth led the way. They showed the adults how to embrace differences and explore shared experiences. This paved the path for a deeper connection. The fusion wasn’t about erasing the past. It was about weaving together the unique strengths of each congregation. Pastor Mechthild Böhm, who served the Emmausbezirk, highlighted the importance of preserving the distinct character of each group. While they share a common faith, the richness lies in their diversity. Services continue to be held at both locations. Even the kindergartens, previously separate entities, maintain their independence. The Emmausgemeinde might have a new name, a new identity as part of something larger. But its spirit, its history, its presence here at Im Münchfeld 2 remains. This union seeks to amplify the message of the Gospel. It aims to strengthen the Christian voice within the Mainz community, creating a harmonious blend of voices within the larger melody of faith.
