Once known as “Feridun Bey Gardens,” Emirgan Mahallesi whispers tales of exiled emirs and blooming tulips. Emirgan Mahallesi sits on the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul’s Sarıyer district. It’s a neighborhood renowned for its waterfront tea gardens and a sprawling urban park. The area’s history is intertwined with Emir Güne Han. During the reign of Murad IV, this Safavid Persian commander surrendered Yerevan without a fight. As a reward, Murad IV brought him to Istanbul and granted him the area then known as “Feridun Bey Gardens.” The name eventually evolved into Emirgan. Today, Emirgan Mahallesi is more than just history. The park now boasts fitness equipment and a running track. It has become a hub for health enthusiasts, moving beyond its picnic-only reputation. Emirgan Park itself is a spectacle. It covers almost 500,000 square meters. During the Istanbul Tulip Festival, thousands of tulips transform the landscape into a vibrant tapestry of color. Three pavilions built during the era of Khedive Ismail Pasha enhance the park’s charm. The Yellow, Pink, and White kiosks offer visitors a place to relax and enjoy refreshments.
