In the early 16th century Sultan Beyazit II built this mosque. He dedicated it to Seyyid Emir Ahmet Buhari. Emir Buhari was more than just a scholar. Look closely. The building you see now is not the original. Fire took its toll. After years of neglect, the community rebuilt Emir Buhari Cami in 1965. The community and a mosque preservation association rebuilt it together.
The mosque holds precious relics of Emir Buhari. Inside, you can find his staff, hat, bag, sword, and scabbard. These items offer a tangible connection to the past. They evoke the presence of the man who inspired a Sultan.
Step into the courtyard. Here lies Emir Buhari’s tomb. The tomb is a simple square structure made of cut stone. Inside, his sarcophagus rests. The interior is quiet and modest.
Notice the other graves in the courtyard. These belong to sheiks of the Nakshibendi order. Their presence adds to the spiritual significance of this place.
The minbar, or pulpit, has its own story. Bayram Pasha, one of Sultan Murad IV’s grand viziers, installed it. This detail highlights the mosque’s connection to various figures throughout history.
