Hidden within the bustling Technion campus in Haifa lies a treasure trove of knowledge: the Elyachar Central Library. This isn’t just any library. The Elyachar Central Library serves as the heart of the Technion library system. It plays a vital role as an academic library, providing resources for students, faculty, and staff. Colonel Jehiel Elyachar, a generous benefactor, provided the funding for the library building. In his honor, it was named after him. Built in 1965, the Elyachar Central Library building stands as a testament to Brutalist architecture, designed by Arieh Sharon and Benjamin Edelson. The library is a hive of activity with approximately 2,000 visitors each day. They explore its vast collection, seeking knowledge and inspiration. But the Elyachar Central Library is more than just books. The library also houses a climate-controlled room in its basement. Here, rare and ancient books are carefully preserved for future generations. The Elyachar Central Library also embraces the digital age. The library serves as the institutional repository for all PhD, MSc, and MD theses written at the Technion. The Elyachar Central Library stands as a beacon of knowledge and innovation, a testament to the enduring power of libraries in the digital age.
