Born on Halloween 1841 Elvira Tennessee Manor Davis lived a life full of adventure. This plaque marks her remarkable home. The Elvira T. Her family moved from Tennessee to Texas when she was quite young. A harrowing incident involving renegade Indians and a brave slave shaped her early years. The story goes that a young Elvira was nearly shot during an attack. She survived thanks to her quick wit and the bravery of a family slave. At 19 Elvira married Blackstone H Davis. He was a lawyer from Bastrop. He served in the Texas House of Representatives. His family owned a quarry. That quarry provided the limestone for the 1853 Texas State Capitol building. Blackstone joined the Confederate Army in 1862 leaving Elvira and their first son alone. They lived on the Davis family land. Elvira often spoke of hearing strange sounds at night.
