Did you know that the ELTE Faculty of Science emerged as an independent entity in 1949? It was a pivotal moment in the university’s history. Before this, science departments were part of the Faculty of Arts.

Let me tell you more about the ELTE Faculty of Science. It is a cornerstone of Eötvös Loránd University. The university itself has a rich history. Cardinal Péter Pázmány founded it in 1635. It began as a Catholic university in Nagyszombat now Trnava Slovakia. Its initial focus was theology and philosophy.

Over time ELTE expanded its academic scope. In 1770 the university moved to Buda. It later relocated to Pest in 1784. This move marked a significant step in its development. The ELTE Faculty of Science plays a vital role in Hungary’s academic landscape.

ELTE is associated with many Nobel laureates. Several alumni and faculty members have received this prestigious award. These include researchers in Physics Chemistry and Medicine. Most recently Ferenc Krausz an alumni of the Faculty of Science, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2023.
