“Did you know that this unassuming plaque tells the story of a remarkable man?” The Elisha Adam Euless Plaque stands before us. It’s a simple aluminum marker. Yet it speaks volumes about a man who shaped this very land. Elisha Adam Euless arrived in Texas in 1867. He left his home in Bedford County Tennessee. He sought a new life in Tarrant County. He married Judy Ann Trigg another Tennessee native. They started farming. Elisha bought land in 1871. He wasn’t just a farmer. He was a leader. He became a Tarrant County constable in 1876. His influence grew. In 1879 he bought 170 acres. This land included a two-story grange hall. It served as a community school and church. The upper floor was for the Grange. Elisha prospered. He grew cotton and corn. He bought more land. He established a cotton gin. A community sprang up. It was named Euless. A post office opened in 1886. It was named Euless by mistake. Elisha’s achievements continued. He became Tarrant County Sheriff. He served two terms. He was the first sheriff to occupy the newly completed courthouse in 1895. After his time as sheriff Elisha returned to Euless. Later he moved to Fort Worth. He died there in 1911. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery. This plaque a small tribute to a big life.
