The Elie Wiesel Bust stands in the Square du Temple, a beautiful square in Paris. It was inaugurated in July 2019 and commemorates the life of Elie Wiesel, a writer and Nobel Prize laureate who survived the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel was born in Romania and lived in Paris for many years. The bronze bust is an impressive work of art, a tribute to a man who dedicated his life to fighting for human rights and peace. The bust was created by the artist Denis Chetboune and was gifted to the city of Paris by the “Association des fils et filles des déportés juifs de France.” The bust stands on a wooden base. The wood may represent a railroad tie, a reference to the deportation trains that took millions of people to their deaths during the Holocaust. In 2017, the square was renamed “Square du Temple – Elie Wiesel” to honor Elie Wiesel’s contributions to history. The square itself is a peaceful haven amongst the city’s hustle and bustle.
