“Von uns hinaus in die Welt” This motto greets you at the Ehrenfried-Walther-von-Tschirnhaus-Gymnasium in Dresden. This isn’t just a school. It’s a story etched in brick and mortar. A story of renewal and ambition.
The Ehrenfried-Walther-von-Tschirnhaus-Gymnasium stands proudly. It occupies the site of the former Fritz-Löffler-Gymnasium. This wasn’t always the case. The school started in 2014. It was then known as the Gymnasium Dresden Süd-West. Its first students learned in Gorbitz. It was a temporary location. A far cry from its current impressive building.
The move to its present location in the Südvorstadt was a significant event. The old Fritz-Löffler-Gymnasium building needed renovations. An old gym and a former school were demolished. A new building and a four-court sports hall were constructed. The new building replaced the old gym. The sports hall replaced the Plattenbau school. The construction cost an estimated 40 million euros. The official move happened in October 2018. The event was celebrated with a school inauguration party. The new building was finished at the time. The sports hall and other renovations were later completed in 2019.

The renaming from Gymnasium Dresden Süd-West to Ehrenfried-Walther-von-Tschirnhaus-Gymnasium took place on April 10 2017. This renaming however wasn’t without controversy.
