Tucked away within the bustling city of Lyon, Église Saint-Marc whispers tales of transformation. Église Saint-Marc began as a humble chapel within the grounds of École La Mache. The school’s main buildings, grand rectangular structures, dwarfed the small, perpendicular chapel at the southern edge. This unassuming chapel, however, held a larger destiny. In 1961, it blossomed into Église Saint-Marc, serving a newly established parish. Father La Mache, embracing the burgeoning community, commissioned Georges Curtelin to expand the choir. The enlarged space received simple adornments. Geometric stained-glass windows and patterned tile flooring created a serene atmosphere. Église Saint-Marc served the community faithfully for decades. However, in 2000, the parish dissolved. The chapel reverted to the school, its sacred purpose fading into memory. In 2015, the building underwent another transformation. The nave became a school hall. The choir was closed off. The eastern chapel found new life as an oratory. Église Saint-Marc stands as a quiet testament to the ever-shifting tides of time and purpose.
