Ballu, restricted by Napoleon III’s budget for religious buildings, ingeniously maximized space and grandeur while economizing on lavish ornamentation. Step inside, and feel the serenity wash over you. Soaring columns, adorned with delicate floral capitals, lead your eyes towards the altar. Light dances through vibrant stained-glass windows, crafted by Charles-Raphael Marechal. Seek out the remarkable murals by Jules-Eugène Lenepveu in the transepts, his vivid scenes depicting moments from the lives of Saint Ambrose and Saint Augustine.
