“Considered by many as the most beautiful modern church in Lyon.” That’s quite a compliment isn’t it? We are standing before the Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour.

The Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour replaced the former church in Massues. The old church needed many repairs. It was also becoming too small for the community. The Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour was completed in 1973.

The original church of Saint Patient was built in the mid-19th century. Tony Desjardins was the architect. It was demolished in 1973. Louis Beyssac finished the new church in 1972.

Louis Bessac designed the Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour. He envisioned it as a tent. The tent symbolizes the desire for a close community. It also reminds us of our journey in this world.

The church’s spire represents the biblical tent. Jean-Marcel Héraut-Dumas created its stained glass windows. The interior is shaped like a conch shell. It has an ambulatory surrounding it. The chancel is octagonal. This symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus.

Inside the Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour there is a 16th-century ivory Christ. It came from the previous church. It was brought back from Spain during Napoleon I’s campaign.

The Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour is part of a group of three parishes. The other two are Sainte Anne de Ménival and Saint Joseph de la Demi Lune in Tassin.

Located at 20 rue des Aqueducs. The Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour is accessible to everyone including those using self-propelled wheelchairs.

The Église Notre-Dame du Point-du-Jour stands as a testament to modern religious architecture. It provides a welcoming space for worship and reflection. It replaced an older structure and continues to serve the community. Its unique design elements create a peaceful atmosphere for all who enter. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty and the thought that went into creating this special place.
