Have you ever seen a building that resembles a ship? Right here in Lisbon, the Edifício Ecran stretches out like an ocean liner ready to set sail. Designed by architect José Troufa Real and completed in 2000, Edifício Ecran is more than just a residential building. It is a striking piece of modern architecture that boldly proclaims Lisbon’s embrace of contemporary aesthetics. Its long, white facade, accented with blue azulejo tiles by artist Jorge Martins, stands as a testament to the city’s artistic spirit. Located in the southern part of Parque das Nações, the Edifício Ecran dominates the landscape. Its unique design has sparked many a debate about its aesthetic value, some comparing it to a cruise ship, others to a giant television screen, hence its name, “Ecran,” meaning “screen” in French. It’s the longest building in Parque das Nações and a true landmark. The top of the building features a metal installation resembling a television antenna, adding another layer of visual interest to this already captivating structure. As you gaze upon Edifício Ecran, its bold form and vibrant colours leave a lasting impression, a symbol of Lisbon’s ever-evolving architectural landscape.
