In the heart of Marseille, a beacon of journalistic integrity stands tall: the École de journalisme et de communication d’Aix-Marseille, or EJCAM as it’s often called. This isn’t just any school; it’s one of fourteen journalism schools in France officially recognized by the profession. The EJCAM’s story began in 1982, as the Centre TransMéditerranéen de la Communication (CTMC). This ambitious project, spearheaded by Lucienne Cornu and supported by Georges Serratrice, president of Aix-Marseille II University, aimed to establish a leading center for media education. The CTMC’s inauguration in 1986, coinciding with the graduation of its first class, was a momentous occasion, presided over by Mayor Gaston Defferre. This marked the beginning of the EJCAM’s journey to becoming a respected institution. In 1998, the CTMC was renamed École de journalisme et de communication de Marseille (EJCM). It then became an integral part of Aix-Marseille II University. Following the merger of universities to form the Université d’Aix-Marseille, it adopted its present name: École de journalisme et de communication d’Aix-Marseille. Today, the EJCAM, located in the 5th arrondissement of Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, boasts a vibrant community of around 500 students and fifteen permanent faculty members. They offer a range of programs, from bachelor’s degrees to master’s, covering journalism, communication, and digital media. The EJCAM is known for its rigorous training program. Students receive a tri-qualification, honing their skills in radio, television, and print journalism. Practical experience is paramount. Students complete internships, allowing them to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings. The EJCAM prides itself on its graduates’ high employment rate, a testament to the quality of education provided. Whether you aspire to be a broadcast journalist, a digital content creator, or a communication strategist, the EJCAM offers a robust foundation for a successful career. So, as you stand before this unassuming building, remember that within its walls future generations of media professionals are being shaped, ready to inform, engage, and challenge the world. The École de journalisme et de communication d’Aix-Marseille is more than just a school; it’s a training ground for truth-seekers and storytellers.
