Originally three schools, Ecclesbourne Primary School has a story that is deeply rooted in this community. Ecclesbourne Primary School has undergone many changes. It stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of education in London.

Ecclesbourne Primary School’s history began in 1901. The school was originally located on Ecclesbourne Road. This site is now occupied by Bensham Manor School. Can you imagine the bustling schoolyard filled with children?

In its early days, Ecclesbourne wasn’t just one school. It was divided into three separate entities. Each had its own headteacher. There was an Infants Mixed school for the youngest learners. Then a ‘Post Infants’ Boys’ school catered to children aged 7 to 11. Finally, a ‘Post Infants’ Girls’ school completed the trio.

A significant reorganisation took place in 1930. The senior boys moved to the Whitehorse Manor site. This move marked the beginning of the close association. It formed the Pegasus Academy Trust. Ecclesbourne then consisted of an Infants Mixed school, a Junior Boys’ school, and a Senior Girls’ School. This arrangement lasted until 1961.

In 1961 another shift occurred. The remaining boys joined their peers at Whitehorse. This left only the Infants and Senior Girls at the Ecclesbourne Road site. The school continued to serve its community.

A new chapter began in 1976. The Infants school moved to new premises at Attlee Close. This is where the present Ecclesbourne Primary School is located. A new Junior School joined them. They shared the Infant building. This was until their own building was ready next door.

The school we see today is the result of a merger. In September 2009 the Junior and Infant schools combined. They formed Ecclesbourne Primary School. This unification created a stronger educational foundation.

The Pegasus Academy Trust assumed responsibility for Ecclesbourne in April 2011. This partnership has further strengthened the school. It has provided resources and support for its continued growth. Ecclesbourne Primary School continues to evolve.

Ecclesbourne Primary School has been a cornerstone of this community. Its journey reflects the changes and challenges. It embodies a commitment to providing quality education. This commitment spans generations. Ecclesbourne Primary School stands ready to welcome future generations of learners. It will continue to shape young lives for years to come.
