Is it possible for a high school to be both brilliant and brand new? At Eastview High School, the answer is a resounding yes. Eastview High School, nestled in Apple Valley, Minnesota, opened its doors in 1997. It’s the youngest of the four high schools in Independent School District 196. But don’t let its youth fool you. Eastview has consistently earned national recognition. Newsweek has repeatedly placed Eastview High School on its list of America’s top high schools. U.S. News & World Report has also honored Eastview as one of America’s Best High Schools. In 2013, Eastview High School received another accolade. It was ranked in the top 3% of the most challenging high schools in the United States. It was also recognized as a top comprehensive high school in Minnesota. The school’s 330,000-square-foot facility sits on 200 acres. The campus includes expansive playing fields and recreational facilities. Eastview High School serves over 2,000 students from grades 9 through 12. These students come from three middle schools: Falcon Ridge, Scott Highlands, and Black Hawk. Interestingly, Eastview High School operates on a quarter system, with each quarter lasting 10 weeks. Most courses follow this quarter schedule. However, some specialized programs have a different timeline. The School of Environmental Studies and Career Development courses run for 12 weeks. These longer courses often include students from other district high schools. Eastview’s athletic teams, known as the Lightning, boast an impressive record. Their mascot, Zapp, is a lively, anthropomorphic lightning bolt. In just 13 years, the Lightning teams have won 21 state championships. They’ve also secured 47 section championships and 44 conference championships. Their academic prowess shines through as well, with 11 state academic championships and 30 section academic championships. Eastview High School students also participate in the Dakota Hawks, an adaptive athletic team. This team brings together students from various district schools. The Hawks have earned 16 state championships since Eastview joined them in 1997. Eastview High School has also nurtured some notable alumni. These include a college basketball player, an actress, a former NFL kicker, and a former state representative. So, as you stand before Eastview High School, remember its story. It’s a story of rapid achievement, academic rigor, athletic excellence, and community involvement.
