Have you ever wondered how a walled garden became a public park? Look at this tranquil space. That’s what Eastcote House Gardens has become. Eastcote House itself, was one of the largest buildings in Eastcote. Unfortunately, it was demolished in 1964. During the 18th century, Eastcote House went through an expansion. The expansion was undertaken by the Hawtrey family, who would live in the house for centuries. Imagine them walking through these gardens. The garden’s walls are very narrow and date back to the 17th century. They were built when the walled garden was still in active use by the Hawtrey family. In the past, the walled garden was used to grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs. The dovecote and coach house were also retained when Eastcote House was demolished. In 1974, these buildings were awarded Grade II listed status. In 1977, a herb garden was planted. The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens volunteers have been maintaining and restoring the gardens since 2008. Now take a moment and enjoy the view.
